Free Standing Emergency Departments in California

Free standing emergency departments owned and operated by physicians have proven successful in Texas since 2010.  We believe the next State that will realize a rapid growth in physician owned FSEDs will be the State of California.  In late 2012 our team worked with a group of physicians to develop a hybrid free standing emergency in Southern California that included a surgery center.  The billing company, Pacific Surgical Billing worked diligently to collect facility fees and have been very successful in doing so.  From the lessons learned since 2012 and by careful and thorough review of the California Health and Safety Codes, we believe California is poised to develop both physician owned and hospital owned free standing emergency departments.  The California Hospital Association has recently expressed interest in working the State legislature to create legislation in favor of free standing emergency departments.
